Our Transportation team is involved in some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating projects that are diverse and technically demanding. We have an enviable reputation in the delivery of some of the UK’s and indeed the world’s most prestigious and challenging projects. Our current client portfolio includes the Welsh Government, Department of Transport, Transport for Scotland, Highways England, Transport for London, Borough Councils, European Commission, Major Developers, City Authorities and International Governments, for whom we undertake the strategic planning, and design with a view to exceeding our client’s expectations.
Our Transportation team continues to add to their impressive list of transport planning project awards and recent successes have seen them secure some of the UK’s most high profile, complex and stimulating projects to complement their existing portfolio of works. Our projects are diverse, technically challenging, and fun to work on. We make a difference. We research and design the urban fabric of tomorrow, with a focus on improving quality of life. Our projects are varied and include, for example, London Bridge Station Regeneration, Crossrail, HS2, Major Developments and Masterplans, Lower Thames Crossing, New Urban Design for Town Centre High Streets, Policy and Research projects, Scheme Business Case, Big Data Analytics, along with Regional, Multi-modal, and Microsimulation traffic models.

The role will allow you to access “on and off the job training” gaining knowledge and hands on experience of supporting our teams in their delivery of exciting projects across our sectors.
Typically, an Apprentice will work 5 days per week. This will be block learning and you will be attending sessions away from the office for technical training as per the Training provider’s calendar which is confirmed prior to the Apprentice start date.
Reporting to the line manager within the Transportation team, you will support the delivery of technically excellent cost-effective solutions, under professional supervision, work in collaboration with other design disciplines and acquire the knowledge and practical skills through on-the-job learning to attain a formal qualification, developing your industry knowledge though affiliations and continuing education.
Preparation of transport planning models, civil engineering drawings and designs
Preparation of design drawings and preparation of design calculations, including Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Document control and project processes in line with company quality system
To provide instruction and advice within the department commensurate with training completed
Gaining experience and proficiency in Arcadis systems and procedures
Becoming familiar and compliant with, relevant H & S regulations and to promote a culture of awareness within the team
Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis
Mathematics and IT skills are all important
Ability to work as part of a team / Working on your own initiative
Strong problem solving, Attention to detail
Ability to come up with practical solutions
Enthusiastic, Willing to learn, Punctual, Reliable, Committed
Proactive and Self-Motivated
Qualifications / Experience:
3 ‘A’ grades at A level, to include Mathematics and a Physical science. (If grades do not include Mathematics, this will be subject to passing a Mathematics Test).
BTEC Extended Diploma with grade DDD and having taken the two Mathematics units, ‘Calculus to solve Engineering problems’ and ‘Further Engineering Mathematics’.
BTEC Diploma grade D*D*, with an A grade in A Level Maths (or subject to passing Mathematics Test).
Candidates with non-traditional qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will be dependent on the employer’s recruitment process (and subject to passing a Mathematics test).
