The Technical team in Tata Steel look after the development of new products and ensure the quality of our manufacturing processes. It’s a varied and diverse function with responsibilities ranging from chemical and metallurgical testing in laboratories to providing technical expertise to our wide range of customers in the automotive, construction and domestic appliance industries. The people in our Technical teams are analytical, rational thinkers who bring excellent attention to detail to their work. Requirements:

To be considered for our Laboratory apprenticeships you’ll need to have (or expect to achieve) 5 GCSEs or equivalent (including English, Maths and Science) at Grades A* - C or level 4 – 9.

Laboratory Apprenticeship Programme Summary:

Year 1

As a paid Tata Apprentice you will:

  • study a Further Education Academic Qualification (e.g. Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science);
  • start your Level 3 NVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities;
  • Undertake a site rotation plan where you will gain valuable work experience by having 2 to 4 month rotations in eight exciting industrial Laboratories that provide an analytical service from the start to the end of the steel making process
  • undertake further training courses and projects.

Year 2

In your second year, you will:

  • continue to study your Further Education Academic Qualification (e.g. Level 3 Diploma in Applied Science);
  • continue your Level 3 NVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities;
  • Undertake a site rotation plan where you will gain valuable work experience by having 2 to 4 month rotations in eight exciting industrial Laboratories that provide an analytical service from the start to the end of the steel making process
  • undertake further training courses and projects.
     

Year 3

In the final year of your apprenticeship you will:

  • continue your Further Education and go onto the L4 HNC in Applied Chemistry program
  • complete your Level 3 NVQ in Laboratory and Associated Technical Activities;
  • be involved in a Laboratory based project assisting the Technologist in one for the eight Laboratories
  • undertake further training courses and projects
