At Rolls-Royce, our reputation for technical excellence is a defining part of our heritage and is something we’re immensely proud of. Join us as a Technical Apprentice, and you’ll feel that sense of pride too. That’s because we’ll give you the on-the-job training and hands-on experience you need to become a technical expert. More than that, we’ll support you to gain nationally-recognised qualifications, and ensure you get a competitive salary into the bargain.
The programme
As a Technical Apprentice, you’ll gain a broad foundation in the technical skills you need to progress in your role. Once you’re ready, you’ll move on to business placements where you’ll work with and be guided by some of the world’s top engineers. On numerous attachments in your second year, you’ll broaden and deepen your knowledge before being aligned to a specific role in the Rolls-Royce business you’ve joined. Along the way, you’ll study for a Level 3 NVQ or SVQ as well as a Level 3 National Certificate/BTEC Diploma in Engineering. In some cases, you’ll have the chance progress on to a Higher National Certificate, Higher National Diploma, or a foundation degree too – it all depends on the potential you show and what the business needs.
What you’ll do
Once they start to specialise, our Technical Apprentices pursue very diverse paths. So, after you develop that initial skillset, you could find yourself on placements that will see you getting to grips with modelling software, planning processes to produce our products, or using geometry to turn innovative engineering ideas into pinpoint-accurate technical drawings.
You’ll be assigned a specific role to develop into which could include Mechanical, Electrical or Engine Planner. You’ll be offered the chance to express a preference at the application stage, but we can’t guarantee you’ll be offered your preference as this will depend on the location you’re recruited to and our business requirements at the time.
What you’ll need
As well as being passionate about engineering, you’ll be articulate, numerate and a great team player. You’re someone who can learn fast and you’ll have the discipline to balance studying for a qualification with the demands of your job. You’ll need at least three GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English Language, plus either Engineering, Design & Technology or Science (excluding Biology) at grade 4/C or above (obtained or predicted).
What you’ll get
A competitive salary starting from £11,932 a year
A competitive pension, and 33 days’ holiday per year (inclusive of bank holidays)
Career support from day one
Nationally-recognised qualifications
