Job Description

Salary: £5+ per hour

Locations: Oldbury

You will work with a variety of metal products, including pipe, sheet and box-section. You will develop the skills to cut, shape and weld together components for use in a range of mechanical, electrical and plumbing modules manufactured at the factory. The role will be factory based which is called offsite.  

As a Laing O’Rourke apprentice you will work through a structured programme that will take between two and four years depending on your apprenticeship choice. The programme will combine practical onsite experience, academic learning at college and a series of bespoke personal development modules.

As part of the Apprenticeship+ programme, you will be expected to achieve an NVQ 2, plus a technical certificate in your chosen discipline. You will attend college on either a block or day release format, depending on the college you are assigned to.  

Your apprenticeship journey will be supported by experienced tradespeople and construction professionals, with a dedicated mentor and apprentice officer that will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship.

On successful completion of your apprenticeship, you will possess the skills necessary to weld all commonly used forms of metal.

The role will be factory based which is called offsite.  Offsite construction (the design and manufacture of building components offsite for installation onsite) is a strategically important area for us so you will be playing a valuable role in supporting its success.

We are looking for people with a genuine interest in construction. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and ambitious, with the potential to progress to a supervisory / management role over a five-to-ten-year period. You should be on target to achieve or have achieved at least 3 passes at GCSE, preferably Maths, English and Science.
