You will work in a team of Carpenters that will construct the temporary support moulds in which steel reinforcement and concrete will be placed to set and form the concrete frame of the building.
As a Laing O’Rourke apprentice you will work through a structured programme that will take between two and four years depending on your apprenticeship choice. The programme will combine practical onsite experience, academic learning at college and a series of bespoke personal development modules.
As part of the Apprenticeship+ programme, you will be expected to achieve an NVQ 2 plus a technical certificate in your chosen discipline. You will attend college on either a block or day release format, depending on the college you are assigned to.
Your apprenticeship journey will be supported by experienced tradespeople and construction professionals, with a dedicated mentor and apprentice officer that will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship.
Formwork is an essential component of the reinforced concrete construction process. It is the term given to either temporary or permanent moulds into which concrete or similar materials are poured to form the elements required to complete a structure. This apprenticeship will provide the necessary skills to fabricate, set out and erect formwork structures using a range of materials and proprietary systems in the construction site environment. Onsite training and experience will be complemented by an extensive construction college apprenticeship programme that will lead to you becoming a competent formwork carpenter.
We are looking for people with a genuine interest in construction. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and ambitious, with the potential to progress to a supervisory / management role over a five-to-ten-year period. Applicants should be on target to achieve or have achieved at least 3 GCSE Grades.
