With the increasing requirement to invest in the future of the UK workforce and following the continued success of our Transportation Technology business in UK, we are seeking to strengthen our team through the appointment of Transportation Technology Apprentices, to support the delivery of inter-urban highways technology, highways technology infrastructure and Intelligent Transport System schemes.
The AECOM Transportation Technology team is currently involved in a wide range of projects and schemes, ranging from feasibility, concept, preliminary design, through to detailed design and implementation. We often work alongside other construction professionals in multi-disciplinary teams. Our work is often fast paced and requires creativity, tenacity and excellent communication to achieve the right result for our clients whilst respecting the requirements of wider stakeholders and maintaining the highest industry standards. We deal with a wide range of clients including national governments, highways authorities, county and local governments, private organisations, and construction and development companies.
Our current portfolio of works comprises a diverse mix of local, national and international highway technology infrastructure improvements projects. AECOM Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job, undertaking real work activities, alongside further continued academic study on an approved training course. You will be supported by an experienced colleague and the wider Transportation Technology team, as well as our supporting Early Careers Talent - Apprenticeship Development Team.Selected apprentice candidates will be enrolled on our Structured Training Excellence Programme (STEP) and have the opportunity to develop their skills within a supporting environment which encourages challenge and collaborative behaviours.
Candidates will be tasked to undertake an actively supporting and developmental role upon Transportation Technology schemes comprising of the following elements:
•Traffic management systems,
•Smart roads technology infrastructure,
•Network operations & control centres,
•Electrical power supply distribution design,
•Transmission network methodologies and requirements.
A sound knowledge base and skillset will be developed, specifically pertaining to:
•Highway network surveillance,
•Road user message delivery,
•Traffic compliance, and,
The work will typically be within a team environment assisting in assessment and design through the various stages of scheme development, and will provide experience not limited to, but including the following:
•Feasibility studies and option reports,
•Interpretation and application of industry standards,
•The development and updating of standards,
•Highways technology Infrastructure design and application,
•Specification development and production,
•Preliminary and Detailed designs packages,
•Technical review and competence approval,
•Certification, compliance and approval actions,
•Construction support activities,
•Handover package collation and preparation for maintenance acceptance, and
•Operational training and support delivery.
