What you will do:
An apprenticeship with us will see you building new skills, while applying your knowledge to real-world live projects. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore your potential and you’ll enjoy full support from your line manager and a mentor. You will be required to ensure that you adhere to safe working practices and also be able to take instructions and act upon them in a prompt and professional manner. We are offering a full-time permanent Apprenticeship Program for talented people. This is a genuine alternative to university for people who have a passion for practical engineering and who want to launch their career with us. The apprenticeship will combine on-the-job work experience, with time at college to achieve NVQ level 3 and leading to an HNC level 4 qualification.
How you will do it:
The 4 year apprenticeship would offer the opportunity to join the Production Systems team based in Wymondham, Norwich working alongside technicians and engineers who are leaders in their field. You will learn about bespoke hydraulic power generation and control safety systems, chemical injection/ dosing systems and fire suppression systems (water and gaseous). You will gain knowledge in rules and regulations to provide guidance in designing systems.
Your main focus will be on electrical installation and testing but will have the opportunity to learn mechanical skills to become a multidiscipline engineering technician. You will follow appropriately focused electrical and fluid power training at local colleges. The manufacturing facility will provide you with the opportunity to be mentored by a talented group of technical engineers who are proud to manufacture high quality bespoke equipment that is used across the globe.
You will have the opportunity to gain higher education qualifications in Engineering Studies, NVQ3 and with possible options to HNC level 4.
What we look for:
BTEC in Engineering/ IT Level 2 or 4 GCSE (or equivalent) at Grade C minimum - in Math, English, Science and IT/CDT or equivalent
Enthusiasm to learn and an interest in problem solving
Strong communication skills
Driving license (preferred)
Self-motivated with good IT skills
Ability to work both independently and as a team player
Although no engineering experience is required, candidates must show an interest in engineering

We are offering a full-time permanent Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship Programme for talented people. This is a genuine alternative to university for people who have a passion for engineering and who want to launch their career with Johnson Controls. The apprenticeship will combine on-the-job work experience, with time at college to achieve a BTEC Diploma in either Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. You will also receive training and development within the Johnson Controls learning framework, along with a national induction and performance evaluation.
We will have approximately 30 apprenticeship roles available throughout the UK. These roles will include Mechanical & Electrical Installation Engineers, Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineers and Field Projects Engineers.
Apprentice Electrical/Mechanical Installation Engineer:
This apprenticeship will provide a foundation from which to progress on several career paths as either an Electrical or Mechanical Installation & Service Engineer. During this apprenticeship you will learn electrical engineering or mechanical engineering skills suitable for installing, maintaining and repairing state-of-the-art fire and security, prevention and suppression systems.
Apprentice Mechanical/Electrical Design Engineers:
This apprenticeship is a highly skilled technical role that requires you to produce designs for a wide range of installations to customer specification both commercial/industrial and residential. Mechanical & Electrical Design Engineers need to be very safety conscious and have good IT, mathematics and communication skills. During the apprenticeship you will learn to produce drawings and designs using Computer Aided Design (CAD), AutoCAD and additional design and prototyping software programmes.
This is a full time permanent role, with a starting salary of £8,220 per annum, with salary increases every 6 months based on performance. You will also receive 25 days annual leave and a pension plan.
Johnson Controls is looking for:
- Four GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C minimum in Maths, English, Science and IT/CDT (or equivalent).

- Good IT skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a team player
- Safety conscious
