Education required:

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grades 9-5 or A*-C, including English language (not literature), Science and Maths

  • Must have or be expected to achieve 96 UCAS points from your top three A-levels (or equivalent), including Maths and/or Physics and/or Engineering and not including General Studies.

Start date: September 2021

What will you do?

Engineers at GSK are responsible for designing, maintaining and improving our leading-edge manufacturing facilities that deliver leading Consumer Healthcare products, such as Sensodyne, Aquafresh, Macleans and Corsodyl Toothpaste and Mouthwash.

Our Engineering Apprenticeship programme is designed to create the Technicians, Engineers and Leaders of the future. As an Engineering Apprentice, you will have the opportunity to learn, grow and develop skills in mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, control & automation as well as teamwork, communication and project management. You will be based our Oral Healthcare factory in Maidenhead.

What will you do?

Our Engineering apprenticeship lasts up to four years. In the first year, you’ll spend most of your time at college, studying theory elements and first principle skills of the apprenticeship and gaining some practical hands-on experience. In subsequent years, you’ll continue one day a week at college while learning new skills as part of an engineering team which will include a series of job rotations. Your rotations may include time in manufacturing, filling and packaging, utilities, facilities and automation & control. At the beginning of each rotation, you will be set a series of learning objectives, so you will always know what is expected of you.

Your apprenticeship will combine on-the-job learning with a programme of training and development. You will:

  • Develop mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and automation skills

  • Learn how to maintain production equipment

  • Carry out routine and planned maintenance

  • Fault find, diagnose and resolve breakdowns

  • Continuous improvement projects

  • Help design, install and test new equipment

  • Develop teamwork and communication skills

  • Take part in programmes to develop personal, social and emotional skills

  • Have the opportunity to become a STEM ambassador.

Achieve your career goals on our apprentice programme

You will learn on-the-job from our in-house industry experts, combined with early responsibility to help develop and progress. You will be assigned a manager and a mentor who will support you throughout your apprenticeship. They will ensure you gain the right experience and skills, while working towards a nationally recognised qualification with local and remote learning.

Working with your manager and programme manager we will work with you to identify the right opportunities to ensure your success and plan for your future career with us.  We will be there to offer support and guidance throughout your apprenticeship.
