School leaver opportunities

Womble Bond Dickinson has a number of opportunities across each of our locations for developing your skills and gaining work experience as part of our early careers programme.

Our early careers programme includes insight days and structured work experience weeks for students age 16 and above, who are interested in working in a legal environment including support roles.  

Our insight days will give you an insight into the work of a commercial law firm with an introduction to a career in law, skills workshops and an opportunity to meet people from around the business.

Our work experience weeks start with an insight day followed by four days within the business, networking with professionals and gaining valuable work experience in both legal and support roles.


In September 2014 we launched the first of our apprenticeship programmes. We recognised the importance of creating alternative routes into the profession for those who wanted to get their first foot on the career ladder sooner rather than later. We also wanted to develop our own home grown talent to ensure a continued pipeline of paralegals, future lawyers and support functions.

Our well established Paralegal Apprenticeship runs over two years. You'll work within our paralegal team, giving you access to a wide range of clients and types of work. Our legal apprenticeship offers school leavers and those who choose not to go to University the opportunity to gain formal legal qualifications and a role in the profession through paid, on-the-job training as an apprentice paralegal.

Our new Solicitor apprenticeship is a direct route to becoming a qualified solicitor without the requirement to go to university. Over the six years, you'll develop an amazing set of skills and a wealth of valuable experience whilst earning a good salary. You will spend time across a variety of legal and support teams covering a wide range of work and training.

It's no secret that we're an ambitious firm.  All of our people contribute to our success, not just our lawyers. They rely hugely on the support they receive from our equally talented business professionals. We are recruiting and training apprentices in a variety of our support teams with our dedicated secretaries, IT experts, HR Professionals, skilled recruiters and facilities managers.

As a growing firm, we have plans to create more of these roles!

Advanced Apprenticeship
IT Apprentice Here at Womble Bond Dickinson we love to celebrate success. In 2017 we won an award at the National Apprenticeship Awards ceremony held in London and due to our ambitious nature and past success we're excited to introduce more Apprenticeship opportunities across the firm. Our latest apprenticeship opportunity is within our IT team joining as an IT Apprentice based in our Bristol office. Introducing the IT team First-class IT systems are absolutely key to the success of any business in today's commercial world and the legal sector is no exception.  Womble Bond Dickinson prides itself on being at the forefront of technological advancements within the legal profession, something we've become so well known for. To remain competitive in our markets, and to continue supporting our growth strategies, our team of dedicated IT professionals have a key role to play, ensuring the integrity of the IT infrastructure, development of new systems and excellent support to all of our employees, and clients.  During your apprenticeship you'll be working alongside and supporting our Level 2 Analysts.  The Level 2 team are location based in each office so they are able to physically go to the person that needs assistance whilst also supporting remotely the wider firm and our clients.  They control the IT equipment in each office and the smooth running of local frontline IT services and have advanced technical IT problem solving abilities.  What will you be doing? Our IT apprenticeship offers you the opportunity to gain a formal IT qualification (Level 3 in IT) as well as paid on-the-job training. You'll be supported by Andy and Louis and work closely with Kostas on the ground. You'll assist with building and rolling out new systems on Windows 10 and Office 2016, support the client suite from an IT perspective including video conferencing, aid with desktop support and handle calls from the service desk, set up equipment for new joiners, replace and update our equipment (hardware / software / mobile devices), printer / multi-functional devices and help us when we press the wrong button (or spill tea in our keyboard), and much more. The list is by no means exhaustive and, as well as the day to day role. there will also be the opportunity to help with the upcoming refurbishment in our Plymouth office, so lots to get your teeth stuck in to.  There will also be the opportunity to travel to other UK offices – getting to know the wider IT Team and firm, supporting other offices during rollouts and holiday cover for the level 2 team. The IT team are very hands on and you will get the opportunity to work with the wider IT Team delivering support, projects and initiatives, which will really help to broaden your wider IT knowledge.
