Salary & benefits

The starting salary for a Level 3 apprentice is £13,000, rising up yo £18,000 for those joining the Degree Apprenticeship in year 3 

 

Requirements

•Minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or Scottish Standard Grade or Junior Certificate in Ireland) at grade ‘C’ or above, including Mathematics & English

•Show an aptitude towards software-based engineering and drawing e.g. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and other similar 3D software

•Demonstrate an interest in and a desire to pursue a career in the area of AECOM applied to •Commitment to continued education and improvement through on-the-job learning and training opportunities.

•Creative, practical, adaptable and enthusiastic •Ability to demonstrate attention to detail

•Ability to think in a methodical way to design, plan and organize parts of projects

•English language proficient, holding excellent communication skills to present information in speech, drawings and reports

Salary : Competitive Deadline : Ongoing Locations : Nottingham This opportunity has evolved due to an increase in workload and will provide exposure to projects across various sectors including government, energy, and transportation projects. When an apprentice starts with us, we pair them with an experienced member of the team who will guide and mentor them through their initial period working on live projects.  Their initial role will support and assist our Technical Assistant within the ecology team on a wide variety of projects and tasks. The successful candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team based in the office with the potential to visit other offices as and when required. In addition good organisation and planning skills are also required to support a team which works safely and to a high technical standard.  The candidate will have excellent verbal and written communication skills as will be dealing with surveyors and clients on project work. This is a fantastic opportunity to further your career, gaining valuable work experience, within an established and successful consultancy. This role will combine work-based on-the-job training and learning with further studies and provides an opportunity to develop skills within a supporting environment which encourages challenge and collaborative behaviours. Applicants must be willing to progress their career after an initial probationary period to undertake a day release course at an identified Further Education College to Business Administration Level 2. The Traffic team is focused on developing engineering measures to achieve a safe and efficient movement and interaction of pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles on the roads. We focus mainly on traffic flows, road geometry, cycle facilities, traffic signs, pavement engineering, traffic signals and intelligent transport systems. We strive to achieve the optimum use of the available space which is often constrained, especially in urban areas. Our traffic teams are currently involved in a wide range of projects from concept and preliminary design, traffic modelling, through to detailed design and implementation. We often work alongside other construction professionals in multi-disciplinary teams. Overall we deliver sustainable cost effective solutions to our clients, whether they are local or national authorities or private developers. Work is often fast paced and requires creativity, tenacity and excellent communication to achieve the right result for our clients whilst respecting the requirements of wider stakeholders and maintaining the highest industry standards’. After an initial probationary period you must be willing to undertake a day release course at a Further Education College to study a relevant course such as Civil Engineering BTEC Level 3 or Civil Degree Apprenticeship, depending on your level of education, and ultimately achieving Incorporated Engineer status and subsequently Chartered Engineer status. As a Transport Planning Technician you would provide technical support to Transport Planners working on policies, projects and plans relating to all kinds of transport systems including: •Roads and the use of cars, lorries and buses •Rail networks •Pedestrian systems for walking or cycling •Air travel A transport planning technician's work could involve contributing towards: •The planning and design of transport and traffic policies, plans, schemes and systems •Collecting, preparing and presenting data, written information and analyses to inform the development of policies, plans and projects •Modelling transport and traffic systems •Assessing the impacts of possible transport measures •The development and implementation of travel planning (Smart Travel) schemes The role will be working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with a weekly wage of £250. The cost of all aspects of your training is covered by AECOM with support from the Government. The apprenticeship runs over a three year period during which you will acquire the knowledge and skills to become a competent Transport Planning Technician. You will undertake a supervised programme of in-company training and college teaching. College attendance will involve an induction week and then 6 two-week blocks. In between these teaching sessions you will work on assignments and have access to on-line learning activities and seminars. Your progress will be monitored online and via regular review meetings. The apprenticeship programme is mapped to the requirements for registration as an Engineering Technician (EngTech), an internationally recognised professional qualification. So, when you have successfully completed the programme of education and training, you will prepare for the apprenticeship end point assessment which is an interview with a review panel of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT). If you are successful at the interview you can apply for Technician membership of CIHT. There may then be the opportunity to go onto further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and, maybe, masters level in Transport Planning AECOM will cover the travel, food and accommodation costs for the block release weeks. You will be allocated accommodation depending on your age. Under 18s will be staying in small groups in vetted homes. Over 18s may stay in local hotels. All activities and accommodation are covered by the colleges Safeguarding and Accommodation policies and procedures.
