We also offer apprenticeships which provide practice-based training for people who want to learn new skills and gain qualifications while working.  As a Laing O’Rourke apprentice you will work with experienced tradesmen and construction professionals while completing a structured programme of study. All of this will allow you to develop a broad set of technical and trade skills, while achieving a recognised qualification.

Requirements

To be eligible for our school-leaver programme you will need to be on track to achieve either three A-levels at grade C or above or an equivalent qualification.

For the apprenticeship programme, we ask that you have or are on target to achieve 3 Cs at GCSE in Maths, English and Science and have a passion for working in the construction industry.

This role is essential to the smooth-running of construction activities. You will be involved in the initial set-up of site facilities and equipment – as well as ongoing testing and repairs. The role will occasionally involve travelling from project to project to ensure other project services are in good working order so you must be prepared to travel as and when required. As a Laing O’Rourke apprentice you will work through a structured programme that will take between two and four years depending on your apprenticeship choice. The programme will combine practical onsite experience, academic learning at college and a series of bespoke personal development modules. As part of the Apprenticeship+ programme, you will be expected to achieve a level 3 standard in your chosen discipline. You will attend college on either a block or day release format, depending on the college you are assigned to.   Your apprenticeship journey will be supported by experienced tradespeople and construction professionals, with a dedicated mentor and apprentice officer that will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship. The role will involve working on site, installing all the aspects of the electrical supply need to supply the finished structure. The work will range from fixing containment systems through to the final connection of the supplies to the various electrical components in everyday use, such as lighting, sockets and larger equipment such as distribution boards. The programme will combine practical onsite experience, academic learning at college and a series of bespoke personal development modules. As part of the Apprenticeship+ programme, you will be expected to achieve an NVQ 2 plus a technical certificate in your chosen discipline. You will attend college on either a block or day release format, depending on the college you are assigned to.   Your apprenticeship journey will be supported by experienced tradespeople and construction professionals, with a dedicated mentor and apprentice officer that will work closely with you, providing regular feedback on your progress towards completing your apprenticeship. Formwork is an essential component of the reinforced concrete construction process. It is the term given to either temporary or permanent moulds into which concrete or similar materials are poured to form the elements required to complete a structure. This apprenticeship will provide the necessary skills to fabricate, set out and erect formwork structures using a range of materials and proprietary systems in the construction site environment. Onsite training and experience will be complemented by an extensive construction college apprenticeship programme that will lead to you becoming a competent formwork carpenter. Deadline: Ongoing  Salary: Competitive Location: Exeter This is your opportunity to join a bespoke civil engineering site management degree apprenticeship created in partnership between Laing O’Rourke and the University of Exeter. We are looking for exceptional people to fill civil engineering roles predominantly (but not exclusively) at our Hinkley Point C project while studying part-time for a debt-free BEng degree at a highly-ranked Russell Group University. You’ll become professionally qualified as well to Technician (EngTech) and Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status What is a Degree Apprenticeship? Degree apprenticeships are a new way of studying. They offer a fully-funded pathway to higher education and professional qualification paid for by the government and the employer; students aren’t required to pay any tuition fees. The degree apprenticeship uniquely combines the undergraduate university experience with paid employment and industrial experience. As a graduate of this programme, you can expect to leave with a full University of Exeter degree, professional qualifications, zero student debt and a job. You will have full membership of the University, extending to academic, welfare and career support as well as access to societies and sports clubs where these fit with your employment. Programme Structure The BEng Civil Engineering Site Management degree apprenticeship is delivered through a combination of residential courses, blended learning and work-based projects over five years. Each residential will last a fortnight (so eight weeks per academic year at university) and during this time you will attend lectures, seminars, participate in workshops and spend time with your academic mentor. The academic curriculum will, for a large part, follow real delivery in the workplace with the day-to-day challenges faced in a work environment informing coursework. Blended elements of the course, including lectures and online collaborative work, are supported by the University’s virtual learning environment. This will supplement and enhance the learning started during your residential study weeks, as well as providing academic support for ongoing projects in the workplace. Alongside your study, you will work full-time in a civil engineering role on one of Laing O’Rourke’s projects around the UK. At work you’ll be given a mentor to help you work towards professional accreditation at Technician Engineer level after the first two years study, and Incorporated Engineer level when you’ve completed the degree. You’ll be part of a team on site, and you’ll have access to some of our senior engineering leaders throughout the apprenticeship. So there’s plenty of support in place for you.
