Dentons do not currently run any School Leaver Programmes. Look at some of the other tabs to explore the exciting opportunities they offer.
How will I study?
This exciting programme gives you the opportunity to qualify as a Solicitor and be awarded an LLB university degree by BPP University. Our six-year programme combines work-based learning in our London office and part time study. You will earn a salary and have no university fees to pay.
You will have one day a week to study and attend classes at BPP University. Their Law School is based in the heart of London's legal district and has an excellent reputation for offering students the skills they need to succeed in law.
You will study by blended learning, with attendance at “live” online classes and regular face-to-face classes at the Law School. You will be provided with a range of materials and access to a virtual learning environment.
What work will I do?
You will work in our London office, in a variety of departments such as Banking & Finance, Real Estate, Corporate and Dispute Resolution. As you progress through your apprenticeship, you will be required to produce a portfolio with examples of work you have done in your department. Examples of the type of work you will carry out are: preparing documents for a transaction, drafting a letter to a client and carrying out a piece of research.
As you progress through the programme, you will be given more responsibility, including running parts of cases and meeting with clients.
What support will I have?
You will receive comprehensive training throughout the six-year programme. This will be a combination of on the job with your supervisor and more structured training courses, such as “Introduction to the City” and “Effective written communication”.
You will be taught how to assist our lawyers with their work and will be supported by a supervisor and a Human Resources Manager throughout the six-year programme.
You will also be allocated a Personal Tutor and Student Manager through BPP. They will support you, monitor your progress and assist you with your portfolio of workplace evidence.
How will I be assessed?
You will build a portfolio of the experience you have gained and the tasks you have completed in the workplace.
You will take exams and assessments throughout the six-year programme to meet the requirements for the LLB degree. You will also be required to pass the Solicitor Regulation Authority (SRA) centralised assessment, consisting of two parts. BPP University will provide you with guidance and assistance to help you pass these assessments.
What will happen at the end of the six-year programme?
If you pass all the required assessments to meet the solicitor apprenticeship standard, you will be admitted to the Roll of Solicitors, subject to the SRA’s usual checks of fitness to practice.
We will discuss with you what roles are available at Dentons and it is our hope that all our apprentices will remain with us as newly qualified lawyers.
You will earn a competitive starting salary of £18,000 which will increase as you progress through the apprenticeship programme.
On top of that, you will receive 24 days’ holiday per year and enjoy numerous benefits – and you’ll get to choose the ones that best fit your lifestyle. Examples of some of the benefits are:
- £25 per month towards membership of a sports club.
- Buy or sell up to four days holiday.
- Private medical insurance.
- Income protection.
- Life assurance.
- Personal pension – you select your contribution level and Dentons will match your contribution up to 5% of your salary.
There’s no typical candidate for our apprenticeship programme. The expertise within our Firm is as diverse as the needs of our global clients – and we want to keep it that way. We look for people with a wide range of skills, aptitudes and personalities, with the potential to contribute to our growing success.
We need to see a strong record of academic and extra-curricular achievement. Ideally, we would like to see 7 GCSEs at grade B or above (including Maths and English) and ABB at A level.
You will need to be resilient, hard working and have the drive and ambition to succeed in a highly demanding work environment.
